The 30th Annual Nonpoint Source Pollution Conference for the New England states and New York will be held on April 18 & 19, 2019 at the Sheraton Harborside Hotel in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
This conference, which is coordinated by New England Interstate Water Pollution Control Commission (NEIWPCC) in partnership with member states and EPA, has become the premier forum for sharing information about nonpoint source pollution (NPS) issues and projects in this region. In 2019, the conference sessions will reflect the following theme: “Thirty years down the drain… at least more of it gets treated now.” The theme focuses on the obstacles that have been overcome in the past thirty years and challenges that the NPS community is tasked with in the next thirty years. Preference will be given to those abstracts that address this theme as well as the topics listed below.
- BMP effectiveness: what to put where and why
- Operations and maintenance: how to ensure long-term effectiveness
- 319 project successes and failures
- In-lake phosphorus treatments
- Demonstrating and marketing the success of 319 programs and projects
- Onsite septic systems (e.g., cost-share programs and remediation)
- Evolution of NPS management since ’89
- Social science and behavioral change
- Hydromodification
- Protecting healthy watersheds and unimpaired waters
- Hot topics (contaminants of emerging concern, innovations, etc.)
- Climate resilience and planning for the next 30 years
- Innovative funding and partnerships for NPS projects
Conference attendees will include representatives from public and private sectors in New England and New York State involved in NPS pollution management, including participants from state, federal, and municipal governments; the private sector; academia; and watershed organizations.
